This book is not a classic guidebook, not an adventure novel, and also not a political report. Rather, it is an honest, personal travelogue, a snapshot of a journey through Pakistan in the year 1993, which was full of surprises, challenges, and encounters.
Why did I undertake this journey? Quite simply: My friend Walter said to us back then: "Accommodation and meals are provided, and a driver is ready to explore the country and people." This invitation went out to 21 friends, and I am glad that only the two of us had the courage to accept it. Surely not all 21 would have come back home.
Furthermore, it was my task to create a documentation about a workshop, which unfortunately vanished into thin air due to the circumstances on site.
On the following pages I take you along to places that hardly a tourist enters, to people who fight their daily battle between tradition and change, and to moments that touched me deeply.
This book is an invitation to travel with open eyes and an open heart, not only to distant lands, but also into the depths of one's own experiences.
I hope it touches you and encourages reflection, just as it has changed me.
